Brochures  & Leaflets

Paper choice plays an important part in the design and production of brochures and leaflets and can bring to life a well-designed, creative piece.

Things to keep in mind:

  •  How long will your brochure be in use? Is it a short term, throw away booklet or a long term brochure which must work for you month in and month out until an update is produced.
  •  If you want your brochure or leaflet to be personalised, you need to consider digital print. This enables you to put, for example, individual names on the front cover or have a different cover for a specific group of targeted customers.
  •  Over the years, the paper industry has developed a range of papers, specifically for brochure use. Whether you want to match the cover and inside pages perfectly or go for a contrast, these papers provide the ideal solution and will result in a brochure that is well presented and printed and thus encourages the recipient to open and read it.
  •  If your brochure or leaflet is going to contain lots of coloured images, the type of paper you use will make a difference as to how well it looks when printed. Gloss papers will give the best results, but if you want to be a little more creative then silk or even uncoated papers will deliver some outstanding results.
  •  Conversely, if your brochure includes lots of information, then you need to keep in mind how easy it will be to read. In this instance, less glossy papers are a better option.
  •  How you finish your brochure or leaflet will help it to stand out and incorporating a varnish on the front and/or inside pages, foil blocking or embossing could make a big difference to the way people perceive the brochure and your company. If the content and messages are important to you, then it is well worth the additional cost of incorporating one or more of these finishes.
  •  Cost should also be factored in, to help you decide if you are producing a premium, designer, mass market or cheap and cheerful brochure/leaflet and you can then plan its content, print and finish to suit the product and your budget.
  •  If you are planning to post your brochure or leaflet, then you need to keep in mind weight and dimensions of the envelope, as size, thickness and weight will impact on the cost of postage.
  •  Where your brochure is used is another important consideration. If it is outdoors or within industrial environments, then you may want to consider synthetic papers which are more suited to these conditions.
  •  Where environmental credentials are important to you, a variety of paper options to help you meet this need are available.
  • Envelopes

Always important as they will be the first thing many people see from your company.
Don’t forget to make sure your communication will fit the envelope sizes available.
